Hi to Alex and all of Mr. Knaus's class,
We met Stanley out at the mailbox in Scottsdale Arizona on Thursday, February 26th. It was so fun to meet him, and hear about the project your class is doing. We drove all the way here from Minnesota. It was 1645 miles by car and took us 3 days. We drove through these states - Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. See if you can find them on the map. Maybe you can imagine our route.
When Stanley arrived he was glad to see us and Alex's Great Grandma Dorothy and Great Grandpa Jim. He played a game of pool at the clubhouse near our condo. Then he wanted to try and climb one of the cactus by the front door, but
the thorns got stuck all over his pants. OUCH
It is beautiful in Arizona and the weather has been like summer in Minnesota - about 75 or 80 degrees. As Stanley learned, there are different kind
s of plants that we don't see at home, including lots of varieties of cactus. Some of them are two or three times as tall as a person, in fact they kind of look like a person with too many arms.
There are also lots of fruit trees in Arizona. Stanley found a grapefruit tree right in our front yard. He thought it was great fun to pick them and enjoy the delicious juice.
He also thought it was a great place to swing!
For dinner we had Mexican food and sat out on the patio. Stanley was really hungry, and ate all of his enchiladas. There are many Hispanic people who live here.
In most of the stores there are people who can speak Spanish.
We will tell you all about our trip to California when we write again.
HAPPY TRAILS,
